Hi there! You have reached David Huang's e-Room. "What is an e-Room?" you might ask. Well this is essentially an electronic version of my classroom where you can find information about me, class activities, lesson plans, and more. Feel free to browse around and check it out! This is my very first blog AND webpage so please give me feedback on what you think or how I can improve my e-Room! Thanks, and enjoy!

I am in the intermediate stages of putting this site up. There is some content here and there, but I am continuing to add things to the website. Please be patient and revisit frequently for further updates!
Who Am I?
My name is David Huang. Let's start from the beginning. I am an American-born Chinese. I was born in San Francisco, California but my hometown is Portland, Oregon as I moved there when I was 3 years old and lived there through high school. I went to David Douglas High School in Southeast Portland and graduated with a focus in Education and Human Development. I then moved to good ol' Eugene, Oregon for my undergraduate and graduate years of school. I got my degree in math with a focus in secondary teaching along with minors in business administration, economics, and music as an undergraduate at the University of Oregon. Immediately after my undergraduate graduation, I became a member of the graduate level teaching program at the U of O, the UOTeach program. I hope to be a math teacher someday, but for now, I'm just living life one day at a time.
The reason why I want to be a teacher can be deeply elaborated, but I can also give you a story from one of my experiences as a student teacher.
Student: Mr. Huang, I hear a lot of teachers are losing their jobs. Why do you want to be a teacher?
Me: Well, it's mainly because I enjoy helping people like you.
Student: Are you going to be teaching here next year?
Me: Unfortunately, I am not.
Student: Why are so many teachers losing their jobs?
Me: Well, it's complicated. But one major reason is because there isn't enough money from the district to go around.
Student: Why would you want a job teaching if there's not enough money for teachers?
Me: Because it's not about the money.
Teaching for me is about the students. I have always enjoyed helping people and especially students with academics. What I want to do is make a difference with the students and create an impact in their education and their perspective towards school, math, and teachers. I want to inspire students to enjoy math and to do that, I need to strive to become the teaching.
The biggest assumption towards math teachers and math graduates is: "one must be good at math". However, I will have to object and say that the reason I want to be a math teacher and the reason I got a degree in math is because I genuinely enjoy the topic and am interested in math. I am not a math genius and was not a perfect math student. Why do I want to be a teacher then? A teacher made me feel worthwhile in school. This teacher and many others told me that I mattered in their classroom full of 30 other students. I want to create the same connections with my students and create meaningful connections between students with teachers and school.
